The Himalayan Thar
The Himalayan Thar was introduced into the country in the early 1900’s and is related to the mountain goat. New Zealand is one of the only places left in the world where sustainable hunting stocks remain and both the horns and the coat of the Bull Thar are highly prized. They are found in rugged terrain at above 4500 feet so a good level of fitness is required.

The Chamois
The Chamois is an alpine animal located throughout much of the South Island and is generally found in small groups of less than ten.  In New Zealand their horns can grow to trophy size, rivaling those from anywhere in the world, however, they are regarded by hunters as being particularly difficult to shoot due to the terrain they inhabit.  The best time to hunt them is in the early mornings and late afternoons when they are most active.
