When is the best time to hunt in New Zealand?

We offer hunting all year round however the best time is from early March through to July. Make a booking.

What is the climate like in New Zealand?

New Zealand high country weather conditions can be variable. In summer (Dec – Feb), temperatures can reach 30ºC (86ºF) and in winter (June – Aug) temperatures can drop to freezing and below. It’s best to be prepared for all types of weather conditions before you set out.

What gear will I need to bring?

Bring all warm hunting clothes, wet weather gear, boots, camera and binoculars etc.

Do you take photos or videos of the experience?

We can record the experience for you but recommend you also bring your own gear.

Do I need a hunting license or fee to hunt in New Zealand?

No. There are no limited seasons, licenses or fee requirements for big game in New Zealand. The only time you require a license is to fish in fresh water and to shoot waterfowl.

What caliber is best for the hunt and can I get ammunition in New Zealand?

We suggest (and use ourselves) anything from a .270 to a .300. These are available for you to use and ammunition is available here but the product range is generally not as good as in the US.

At what range would we be shooting?

Most shots are taken at around 150 yards.

How hard is it to bring a rifle into New Zealand?

It’s not too difficult but you have to register your rifle with the NZ Police at the airport upon arrival. There is a NZ$25 fee to pay and some paperwork which we will provide for you before you leave your home.

How long is the flight to New Zealand and where do you fly into?

You can fly into Auckland or Christchurch and the flight is around 12 hours from Los Angeles. We offer a pick up and drop off from Christchurch Airport as part of your hunting package.

Should we use a taxidermist in New Zealand or back home?

There is a great taxidermist in Christchurch who is very experienced with Red Stags which can be arranged by us. However if you prefer to use one back home, trophy hide and horn preparation, papers and packaging can be done for USD$150.
