The fallow deer is a small animal that is generally found in close cover habitats on private land in New Zealand.  Hunting of the fallow is more tightly controlled than other deer species and trophy horns vary from herd to herd. Most fallow deer in the country are from European stocks introduced into the country in the late 1800’s.
