Trophy Hunting

Flax Hills is located in the stunning Kaikoura region, home to the renowned Red Stag since its introduction to New Zealand in the early 1900’s.  Flax Hills offers a stunning scenic environment for a hunting expedition primarily targeting Red Deer but also a range of other animals including Chamois, Himalayan Thar, Fallow Deer, Wild Boar, Possums, Rabbits and Bird Shooting.

When is the best time to hunt?
The hunting season begins in February and runs through to August. During spring (September to November) the deer start to ‘roar’ venturing out into open grasslands in search of food making them easier to locate. By April the stags become more vocal and active and this is an ideal time for hunting.

The New Zealand Scoring System
The most commonly used trophy scoring systems in NZ are the Douglas score, SCI and CIC. The Douglas score is the primary system used for free range hunting.
